The CAP team, anchored by Bren Brophy and Jutka Devenyi, and directed by Debbie Heustice, have together shaped new media- and arts-based responses to public health issues. Of prime importance for 2010 is their new mobile phone project - Impilo! Health in My Hands. The team has developed a mobile phone friendly version of their vast database of health and welfare service providers making it easy for anyone to connect with support services 24/7/365. The number to call is *120*448#. Costs are minimal. The team is currently working with several communities to explore how people use the mobile phone service. Participatory learning techniques are being actively employed to capture user experience in dynamic and novel ways.

HIVAN’S CULTURE AND ARTS PROGRAMME (CAP)
HIVAN’s Culture and Arts Programme (CAP) incorporates the Artists’ Action Around AIDS (AAAA) and Highly Effective Art (HEART) programmes. CAP aims to form a bridge between the cultural arts, civil society and the scientific community. Through the use of visual media and accessible art forms the CAP programme engages the public and private sectors, clarifies complex biomedical information and entrenches collaboration between socio-behavioural and biomedical intervention programmes. The CAP programme offers art workshops and exhibitions, knowledge and skills transfer, awareness creating campaigns and confidence building activities. The project has used the visual and dramatic arts to help participants to more effectively engage in learning about difficult subject matters such as HIV, gender-based violence, self-esteem and mental health.
