PUBLICATIONS

This is our brand new book! It is a joint collaborative effort between Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, USA, and the Durban University of Technology in Durban, South Africa. It is presently still in the hands of UKZN Press who are undertaking a peer-review prior to publishing. It should be shortly on the shelves all over the world!

Essentially it chronicles, through a series of essays by leading contributors in the project, the origins, the genesis and the broad range of activities in the Siyazama Project up until the present day. It talks much about the amazing, but small group of craftswomen who form the vitally important backbone of the project.  Its intention is to be a documentary legacy of all their creative endeavours in their beaded cloth doll making enterprise!

The photography in the book has been hailed by many as excellent, unusual and completely fresh! Our group of photographers were Kevin Goss-Ross, Xavier Vahed, Tom Wells and Annie Behallal. Some of our authors, editors and contributors to our book are Prof. Ian Sutherland, Prof. Marsha MacDowell, Prof. Kurt Dewhurst, Dr. Ken Netshiombo, Prof. Jackie Guille, Dr. Marit Dewhurst, Mike White and Tony Reilly.  Of course there is me, too!

LATEST NEWS!

Our book has gone successfully through peer-review at UKZN Press. We are so excited about this process as it has taken a very long time but has been very worthwhile! We do not know exactly who our reviewers were, but in any case, we thank them for their hard work. Claire Norden, a graduate Graphic Design degree student of ours, here at DUT, has been tasked with sorting out all of the typographical errors and fixing up some of the adjustments prior to final publishing. It's been a long road but we are almost there!

It was successfully published in 2013!

In 2016, I authored a Chapter in this textbook "Creative Arts, Health, and Wellbeing' published by Oxford University Press.
