HILLCREST AIDS CENTRE + WOZA MOYA

Woza Moya (Come Holy Spirit or Come Change) is an important income-generation project of the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT).

Headed up by Fine Artist and art teacher Paula Thompson the project aims to empower, uplift and encourage those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS to become economically self-sufficient through the production of crafts within their own environment. The projects main aim is to teach craft skills through the production and sale of beaded items, ceramics, wirework, crochet work, fabric painting and sewing.

Hillcrest AIDS Centre endevours to secure orders of craftwork in an attempt to maintain a steady income for the members of the project. This scheme is for all of those affected by the epidemic, including volunteer caregivers, the unemployed and caregivers of children.

Through craft alone, the project supports an estimated 150 families with a regular income.

Location: Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal
